No business like show business!

So last week Herriman city held auditions for a children's production, "We Built This City on Rock and Roll: The Story of the Unbeatables". Auditions were open for children going into 1st-7th grade, that catagory includes all but one of my kids! I showed them the information, and asked if anyone was intersted. The answer was a resounding:

"YES!!!"
You could choose to audition one of two ways. First, you could go Wednesday night and recite a poem and sing for them to audition for a lead part; or second, you could go to an audition workshop held the following Saturday and sign up for their chorus. Those who auditioned but didn't get a lead part would automatically make the chorus. Tory, Sydney, and Spencer were gung-ho to audition for a lead part...We totally talked Meg into it. She was nervous about being up in front of the director...then I reminded her that whether she is a lead or not, she's going to be up in front of a whole audience! They all recited their poetry flawlessly...Sydney used the Preamble to the Constitution as her memorized piece...I thought that would be good since it was long!
But as they each took their turn getting up to sing, every one of them dropped the lyrics at some point. (The song they sang was "Stray Cat Strut...it's one of the 80's tunes used in the play...they knew it when we left for the audition...Darn those nerves!)
We ended up leaving auditions with some dissappointed kids...They weren't very happy with their audition.
But today we drove over to the Herriman City Offices to see if there was a cast list posted, and to our surprise: Tory got one of the lead parts! Way to go...He's playing the part of "Pete".
I'm excited for the show...Sydney, Meg, and Spencer will ROCK that chorus!
PS: I had been worried about Spencer auditioning...he gets pretty shy in front of a crowd (although all of you that saw my youngster breakdance at Brendan's wedding won't believe me!)...But when I asked him about it, he said, "Yeah. I'll be pretty nervous, but I'm going to audition, cause Grandma Crabb will probably bring me something cool." Yep. She probably will.

AWESOME! Way to go kids...especially Tory that rocks! Totally forgot to tell you that I talked to Shawn and he pointed out that the days of the performances we already have committed to be some where. Darn. We'll see if we can make one of the showings though.
